Nagging Doubt 2012 Chardonnay

by | Feb 12, 2014

“What would you do if you knew you could not fail?” Okanagan Valley’s Nagging Doubt Wines poses this question on their labels to wine drinkers—nay, Nagging Doubt Wines baits its consumers with this question. Answering the call and challenge of doubt themselves, Vancouverite husband and wife duo Rob and Abbey Westbury teamed up with local winemaker Mark Simpson to make their dreams come true and leave their doubts of “what if” behind with an award-winning winery, recognized both for their juice and visionary labels (watch Brooklyn-based artist Dana Tanamachi-Williams bring the design to life here).

For the 2012 Chardonnay, fruit was sourced form Anarchist Mountain Vineyard in Osoyoos, BC, which sits at 1,700 feet of elevation, providing oodles of acidity even in this warmer vintage. With 25 percent of the fruit fermented in French oak and the remainder residing in stainless steel, the balance is still a wine of full-bodied richness and 15.2 percent ABV to boot. The wine is proudly New World in style, with Golden Delicious apples, pineapple, melon, baked apple and cinnamon. If sunshine had a flavor, it would be found in this bottle. The mouthfeel is juicy in spiced apple and Bosc pear with equalizing acid in the mid-palate and a rotund, vigorous finish with only a ray of heat in the end.
