Grand Teton Distillery
Driggs, Idaho

It’s time for a spirit-forward happy hour, and I am having a two-for-one special with Grand Teton Distillery’s Malt Whiskey and Huckleberry Flavored  Vodka. Here is a quick look at these spirits and my suggestions for two simple cocktails that showcase their refined flavor profiles.

Grand Teton Malt Whiskey:

Style: American Single Malt

Aromas: Fine leather, lavender and crème brûlée.

Flavors: Black tea, spice, chamomile, maple and malt.

$40/750ml | 40% ABV

From the Brand:

100% Idaho malted barley. These premium grains are sourced from a local family farm that grows and malts 2-row barley. The whiskey is double distilled in a hybrid copper pot still, matured in the ex-bourbon barrels of double gold medal–winning Colter’s Run Bourbon, and double barrel finished in Jackson Hole Winery red wine barrels.

Cocktail Suggestion:

Sophisticated and nuanced, I suggest going with something minimal like this riff on the classic Up to Date cocktail.

Up to Date in Teton

1 – 1 ½ ounce Grand Teton Malt Whiskey

1 ounce Amontillado Sherry

½ ounce Cointreau

2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Directions

In a mixing glass, fill ¾ full with ice and stir together all ingredients for about 30 turns. Strain into a rocks glass with a large-format ice cube and serve immediately.

Grand Teton Huckleberry Flavored Vodka:

Style: Flavored Potato Vodka

Aromas: Ripe berries and alpines

Flavors: Dry huckleberry essence, clean, verdant, with a berry cream finish

$25/750ml | 35% ABV

From the Brand:

Derived from the double gold–winning Grand Teton Potato Vodka and real mountain huckleberries. This vodka is naturally infused with huckleberries over 12 weeks, with no artificial colors or flavors.

Cocktail Suggestion:

Flavored vodkas can sometimes get lost in the noise of other cocktail mixers. I wanted something a little different. Something dry, not too sweet, to show off those mountain huckleberry flavors a little better. Here is my twist on a Valencia cocktail, aka the Spanish Martini.

Grand Valencia

2 ½ ounces Grand Teton Huckleberry Flavored Vodka

1/2 ounce Amontillado Sherry

Flamed orange peel and blackberry

Directions

In a mixing glass, fill ¾ full with ice and stir together all ingredients for about 30 turns. Strain into a chilled coupe glass and garnish.
