Double Mountain’s From the Vault: Gravitar Galactic IPA
Double Mountain Brewery & Cidery is reaching back into the archives and blasting off into bold hop territory with the return of a fan favorite: From the Vault: Gravitar Galactic IPA. Part of Double Mountain’s rotating “From the Vault” series, which celebrates beloved recipes from the brewery’s 19-year history, Gravitar Galactic IPA revives a beer that helped define the adventurous spirit of the Pacific Northwest IPA movement.
Gravitar Galactic IPA is a hop-forward journey through bright citrus, resinous pine, and tropical depths. Aromas of grapefruit zest and sticky evergreen rise from the glass, followed by vibrant notes of passionfruit and ripe stone fruit. A firm malt backbone provides balance, while a crisp, clean finish keeps the beer light on its feet despite its interstellar intensity. This latest iteration features Galaxy hops paired with modern hopping techniques, a refreshed yeast strain, and a lightened malt bill for an even more vibrant, drinkable experience.
Originally released during 2013 in Double Mountain’s early experimental years, Gravitar quickly developed a cult following. Its return reflects the brewery’s ongoing commitment to honoring the beers that shaped its identity; bold, expressive, and unapologetically Northwest. “From the Vault gives us the chance to bring back recipes that tell our story,” said owner and brewmaster Matt Swihart. “Gravitar was a beer that pushed boundaries for us. It’s exciting to share it again with longtime fans and a whole new generation of hop lovers.”
You may be wondering how Double Mountain is getting away with a name like Gravitar Galactic IPA. As luck would have it, one of the original creators of the classic arcade game Gravitar stopped by the brewery, and permission to use the name was unofficially granted. Pretty neat-o, and proof that sometimes the universe really does work in your favor! Pew pew.

Greetings Earthlings. We are going back to the future for this recreation of one of our favorites from the past: Gravitar. This time around, we used a interstellar amount of Galaxy, Strata, Simcoe, and a touch of Mosaic and Deep Cut Cascade. Cosmic citrus, pineapple, and an ethereal note of ripe berry is anchored by a grounding whisper of forest mist. Go forth and explore.
