Expect tapas, gorgeous cocktails and occasional live Spanish guitar.
SEATTLE, WA — Pike Street Hospitality Group (PSHG) will open bar tango on Thursday, Oct. 23, marking the return of one of Seattle’s most beloved cocktail and tapas institutions.
From 2000 to 2019, Tango Restaurant & Lounge was a Seattle date-night favorite known for its moody atmosphere, Spanish-inspired small plates, and the infamous El Diablo dessert. This fall, that spirit returns in a refreshed, more intimate form at the corner of E. Pine Street and Summit Avenue, anchoring the building alongside Uncle Dom’s Italian Kitchen, which opened earlier this month.
bar tango brings the same warmth and late-night energy as the original, now centered around a horseshoe-shaped bar, well-crafted cocktails, and tapas made for sharing. Behind the bar, a private space accommodates small gatherings of up to 22 guests. The team is led by Bar Manager Christofer Moustakas, formerly of Canon, and General Manager Leann Jensen, most recently General Manager at The Carlile Room. The menu offers modern nods to Tango classics including bacon-wrapped dates, queso azul, and Spanish meats and cheeses alongside Spanish wines, sangria, and handcrafted cocktails.
Adding to the ambiance, local musician André Feriante, who performed at the original Tango, will return with live Spanish guitar on Sunday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Oct. 26. bar tango plans to continue the Sunday series through fall and revisit programming next spring based on community response. Hanging throughout the space is original artwork by Seattle tattoo artist David Tupper, which once adorned the walls of the original restaurant.
“We want bar tango to be a place that helps keep this corner of Capitol Hill alive at night. People can grab a bite, share a drink, and feel part of the city, whether you’re coming from the Convention Center or live up the street,” said Travis Rosenthal, owner of PSHG.
bar tango completes a major milestone for PSHG as it’s the group’s fourth and final concept within the 422 E. Pine Street building. Over the past six months, PSHG has opened Double O’ Burgers, Uncle Dom’s Italian Kitchen, Cantina del Sol, and now bar tango, transforming the once-vacant corner into one of Capitol Hill’s most dynamic culinary destinations.
