Purple Star 2013 Sauvignon Blanc

by | Apr 29, 2015

Red Mountain-based Purple Star Wines follows a triple-A standard of winemaking: they believe their wines should be accessible, approachable and affordable. Winemaker Kyle Johnson has a grasp on all three concepts, with more than 10 years of making wine in Washington State and for some of the more accessible, approachable and affordable labels (see Chateau Ste. Michelle, Olsen Estates and For A Song).

With Purple Star, Johnson and his wife and co-owner, Amy, give back to their community by donating 15 percent of the wines’ proceeds to Seattle Children’s Hospital to benefit uncompensated care. To participate in the proceeds, start with purchasing the 2013 Sauvignon Blanc from Caliche Lake Vineyard in the Ancient Lakes AVA. Aromas of green grapes, red apple, pear and honeydew burst out immediately, allowing dusty minerality to chime in with air. The palate is light and bright with salivating acids and a crisp, balanced, honeydew finish.
