Okanagan Summer Wine & Food Festival

by | Jul 30, 2013

Many people from out of town have told me one of the most wondrous things we have here in the Pacific Northwest is our unmatched boundless view of the mountains. While hikes can be quite the ordeal, the goal is always about making it to the top for a prized view above the clouds as far as the eye can see. For one mountain in BC’s Thompson Okanagan region, wine and art await with your breathtaking view.

Tucked away atop of one of the region’s mountains is the Silver Star Mountain Resort, known for its premier winter skiing and summer mountain biking. But on Aug. 9–10, this resort will be the place to check out the Okanagan Summer Wine and Food Festival.

With a range of events from wine dinners, art auctions and tours, the spectacle of this weekend retreat is the Mile High Wine event at 3 pm, Aug. 10. This event will feature more than 100 wines lining Main Street in the Silver Star’s quaint hillside village, while accompanied by small bites and live entertainment.

At 4 pm the same day, a silent auction featuring works from six local artists who’ve attempted to capture the beauty of the Silver Star Mountain will be held. The auction’s winnings will be divided among the artists and the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation.

But before you can make it to the festival’s epic conclusion, you’ll have a variety of food and tours to delight in.

On Friday, the resort will put on guided tours of the mountain’s trails as well as a grand tour and a scenic trip in the Summer Sky Chairlift. The resort also will host a shorter excursion on Saturday afternoon.

For dinner, a variety of options, from antipasto to tapas BBQ and fine dining, will be paired with Okanagan wines in your choice among the resort’s three restaurants.

This is one mountain high you won’t want to come down from.

Friday, Aug. 9 – Saturday, Aug. 10 || Times vary || 123 Shortt St. Silver Mountain, BC || Tickets: $55 for Mile High Wine Tasting
