Cozy Winter Patios in the Pacific Northwest

by | Jan 18, 2024

Warm up to the Northwest winter with heated outdoor spaces

Now that temperatures have dropped, thoughts turn to keeping warm by the fire armed with a belly warmer. Many Northwest establishments bring out the heaters so diners can stay warm in their outdoor spaces while enjoying their fare. But some add to this winter warmth by offering a truly elevated outdoor experience. Below, find cozy winter patios to visit in the Pacific Northwest.

Heated yurts and barrel-aged beers

After a day of winter play in the Columbia River Gorge, relax in style at Hood River’s Ferment Brewing and cozy up in the heated patio yurts. These four yurts can accommodate up to eight friends for a celebration of Ferment’s three winter barrel-aged beers. These limited beers, which clock in between 11% and 13% ABV,  include an imperial stout, barleywine ale (Silver medalist in Sip’s 12th Annual Best of the Northwest awards), and Farm to Market Blend No. 27, a Zupan’s Market collaboration. Pair these beers with seasonal menu items that include miso-maple Brussels sprouts, homemade soups, sweet and spicy popcorn chicken, warm artichoke dip, pumpkin spice sundaes and warm stout brownies.

Cozy Up in Bend with a firepit and hot tub

For another Oregon-based place to unwind after a day of winter play, check out the Campfire Hotel in Bend. The 10-foot-wide communal firepit and outdoor hot tub nestled among the ponderosa pines allow guests to chill without getting cold. Tuesday through Sunday, the onsite Canteen Bar offers specialty items such as Spanish coffee, rosemary hot toddy and the Signature Campfire Old Fashioned in addition to weekly drink specials and events. Also, Fire On The Mountain offers a selection of wings, sandwiches and salads. S’more kits are available for purchase at the front desk to roast by the firepit, as well.

Heated Outdoor Patios in Portland

Stormbreaker has outdoor patios at both its Portland locations that are heated and covered with ample seating to accommodate groups. Both locations have tunes playing throughout the venue, and the Mississippi Avenue location has the option of watching sports on the big screen, as well as nine heaters and two fire pits for maximum comfort. These patio spaces pair especially well with their Winter Coat beers. The Rye Barrel Aged Winter Coat 2023 is aged in Rose City Distilling’s James Oliver rye barrels with wonderful hints of spice, while the Bourbon Barrel Aged Winter Coat 2023 is aged in Bull Run Distilling bourbon barrels with hints of vanilla. Both barrel-aged versions are available in cans for the first time.
