The renovated vintage shop barn that Frichette Winery sits in is unique to the Red Mountain AVA of Washington. Its neighboring buildings are mostly those of grandeur—high caliber structures of stone and light installations, surrounded by the fruit that fuels them. But Frichette is a modest wine monument, an original building to the property that Greg and Shae Frichette purchased and bore the winery from in 2011. Cozy, comfortable and welcoming, just like Greg and Shae Frichette themselves, the tasting room and winery features beautifully handcrafted local wooden furniture and seating areas, and often Disney movies playing for the couple’s son, Jayden. On the bar will be the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon, a Columbia Valley signature that was enhanced with Petit Verdot and aged in 62 percent new American oak and 38 percent new French barrels. Deep, resonating shades of purple rim the glass and nearly sonorous smells of blackberry jam, currants, baking spices, herbs and cocoa reverberate out. Fully-loaded and juicy, the palate weaves in acid and easy tannin across the tongue with remnants of black fruits and crushed herbs lingering in the finish.
