Avallé Announces “From the Sky Down” Wine Collaboration with Winemaker Todd Alexander

Single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from select vineyards across the Columbia Valley

Columbia Valley, Wash. (April 8, 2024) – Avallé today announced its newest project – From the Sky Down – a collaboration with Winemaker Todd Alexander. From the Sky Down is an exploration of single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from elite sites across the Columbia Valley AVA.

The initial release includes three wines from the 2021 vintage, each a single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from Conner Lee (Columbia Valley), Solaksen (Royal Slope), and Heart of the Hill (Red Mountain).

“Avallé is focused on empowering remarkable winemakers with select vineyards to showcase the dynamic range of what the Columbia Valley has to offer,” said Bryan Otis, Proprietor of Avallé. “Our region is only as great as our vineyards, and the winemakers who craft wine from them. I am thrilled to partner with Todd Alexander on From the Sky Down. Todd is a true talent who can coax out the unique characteristics of each vineyard and maximize its potential. Our region is lucky to have him here.”

The family behind Matthews Winery recently created Avallé (pronounced “Ah-va-lay”) to combine its growing portfolio of wines (Matthews, Tenor, Jaine, Blackboard, and Single Barrel) into one collection.

The name, From the Sky Down, which implies terroir, encompasses all the elements that impact each site and vintage. The philosophy is to look at the natural characteristics inherent in each vineyard and empower the winemaker to capture the expression of each single place and time. In short, to view everything first from the sky down.

“This project is exciting because we’re crafting exceptional single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from diverse sites under one label,” said Winemaker Todd Alexander. “We take a no-restrictions approach with the aim of telling the story of each single vineyard and vintage. We are laser-focused, showcasing the best of what these sites have to offer. That’s the way I like to make wine and I’m proud that these wines reflect that approach.”

Winemaker Todd Alexander has a distinguished winemaking background. Before moving to Washington, he was most recently Winemaker and General Manager in Napa Valley for top producer Bryant Family Vineyard. He joined Force Majeure as Winemaker in 2014 and also crafts wines for WeatherEye estate, his own label, Holocene, featuring Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley – and has projects in France.

The first three releases (all priced at $250/bottle) of From the Sky Down include:

— 2021 From the Sky Down Cabernet Sauvignon Conner Lee Vineyard (Columbia Valley)

— 2021 From the Sky Down Cabernet Sauvignon Solaksen Vineyard (Royal Slope)
