Après-Ski Sipping: Silver Star Mountain Resort’s Wine & Dine Weekend

by | Mar 1, 2013

Heavy snow has been in the mountains of the Northwest, which means it’s time to go skiing. And if you’re reading this, you also know it’s always time for wine.

Really, it’s best if we combine both (skiing first, I think). Silver Star Mountain Resort is doing it right Friday, March 8th and Saturday, March 9th during its third annual Wine & Dine Weekend. Tucked into the powdery Okanagan Valley, the resort is known for its authentic mountain feel and scenic slopes. Meanwhile, Okanagan’s young guard of wineries is making a name for the region as an ever more respected wine destination. Sixteen valley wineries have RSVP’d for this year’s fiesta: among them are new standouts like Misconduct Wine Co. and old standbys like Mt. Boucherie.

Ski to your heart’s content by morning, and warm up afterward with some of the best of B.C. wine. On Friday attend “Pairing Wine And Chocolate,” hosted by the resort’s food and beverage director and sommelier Sean Coward who will play liaison between the wine, chocolate and our taste buds throughout the workshop. On Saturday, Coward shows us how to “Taste Like A Pro,” educating enthusiasts on how to detect those “nuances of stone fruit and slate” we tend to be intimidated by. Both seminars are held at the intimately upscale Silver Grill Steak and Chop House and are $20 per ticket.

Then it’s time to put your new skills to the test: a resort-full of people will come together at Silver Star’s Town Hall (which is in fact a restaurant) for the main event, a two-hour “Wine Tasting Extravaganza” hosted by Global B.C.’s Wesla Wong. Resort restaurants Silver Grill and The Den provide appetizers, and a silent auction will take place with proceeds going to cancer research. Tickets are $34 per person and include a $10 voucher to Silver Grill.

Are you ready? Then grab your skis, scarves and sense of adventure and come to B.C.
