The Daily Sip: Fort George Brewery Sunrise Oatmeal Pale Ale

by | Feb 28, 2013

Introducing the Daily Sip, our day-to-day suggestions for how to spend your waking hours in the world of libations, from juice and tea to wine, beer and more.

BEER THURSDAYS: Fort George Brewery Sunrise Oatmeal Pale Ale

The pride and joy of Astoria, Ore., Fort George Brewery is based in the heart and soul of the city, in one of the town’s original settlement sites. The avant-garde brewpub brings beer-enriched moxie to the sleepy seaside village. The OPA, which is a spin on the brewery’s first brew creation, is floral and citrusy on the nose with an aroma of creaminess characterized by the oatmeal, while on palate, the moderate hops offer up a bitterness to level out the fruit, honey and yeast flavors and aromas, classic to an oatmeal breakfast. One of the few Northwesterners to take on the unusual oatmeal pale ale style, quirky Astoria’s equally eccentric Fort George takes on this ale in stride and in can with a sweet and satisfying product.
