For the many Scandinavians that reside in Seattle, Odin Brewing Company and their tribute to the Nordic Vikings is a welcome enthusiasm in the booming beer town. And for the many self-proclaimed foodies that reside in Seattle, Odin Brewing’s food-friendly ales are a welcome style to the swelling culinary scene. According to their website, Odin has been embracing “the exploratory spirit of the ancient Vikings” since December of 2009 and their “beer is now sacking and pillaging cities throughout Washington and British Columbia.” Gotta love the dedication to a good metaphor—for a true saga, visit their site and read on. Odin’s 2014 Series is in honor of their fifth anniversary, with special releases of “tribute ales,” including the French Style Saison. A punctual and appropriate spring release, the saison become available April 25 and was poured heavy during the “Heat Wave of 2014” last week at their dockside Asgard Tavern in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. Light, bright but packing a punch of yeast, brioche, orange rind and spice, the Belgian-style ale finishes crisp and clean, leaving the flavors of a lemon custard tart in your mouth. Skal!
