Scenic drives, agricultural experiences, and community celebrations offer an authentic taste of autumn across nearly 3,000 square miles
(WENATCHEE, Wash.) — Fall arrives in layers across Chelan County, beginning in the Cascade Mountains before moving east through the forests, river valleys, orchards, and vineyards that define much of the region. As the landscape turns gold, amber, and crimson, apples and pears reach their peak, grapes hang heavy on the vine, and communities gather for seasonal traditions rooted in the region’s rich agricultural heritage.
Some of the county’s most memorable fall views can be found in the landscapes surrounding Leavenworth, throughout the Wenatchee River Valley, and along the shores of Lake Chelan – recently named the cleanest lake in the U.S. The Cascade Loop and Blewett Pass offer scenic driving routes, while trails and waterfront paths provide a closer look at the changing tamaracks, maples, and cottonwoods.
“For many reasons, fall is one of the defining expressions here, and a favorite season not only for visitors but also for those who call Chelan County home,” said Jerri Barkley, executive director of Visit Chelan County. “The landscape changes just as orchards and vineyards are in full swing and longstanding festivals bring communities together. It is a beautiful time to visit, but also a meaningful one. Every farm stand stop, tasting, and overnight stay supports the people whose work shapes this place.”
Agriculture is part of everyday life in Chelan County, where multigenerational farms have helped shape the landscape and its communities. During fall, visitors can pick produce, stop at roadside fruit stands, taste freshly pressed cider, and experience vineyard harvest through seasonal releases, tours, and special events.
The self-guided North Central Washington Food & Farm Trail connects 28 farms, orchards, cideries, markets, and farm-to-table experiences across eight communities. Apples and pears are typically available during September and October, while local cider and wine experiences continue year-round.
Several signature events give visitors another reason to experience Chelan County this fall:
Annual Lake Chelan Wine Harvest, Sept. 22-Nov. 26 — Wineries throughout the valley mark harvest with newly released wines, barrel tastings, grape stomps, vineyard tours, and live music.
Washington State Autumn Leaf Festival, Sept. 25-27 — Leavenworth’s longest-running festival has celebrated the changing season since 1964. The weekend includes live music, food, arts and crafts, and activities throughout the Bavarian village. The Grand Parade begins at noon Saturday, Sept. 26, with floats, marching bands, entertainers, and Bavarian groups traveling through downtown.
Leavenworth Oktoberfest, Oct. 2-3, 9-10, and 16-17 — The Bavarian village celebrates Oktoberfest over three weekends with live music, dancing, food and beer across three stages at the Leavenworth Festhalle and Front Street Park. The 2026 lineup includes Swiss headliners Oesch’s die Dritten, West Coast Prost and traditional performers, while a family-friendly Kinderplatz offers games, activities and a Ferris wheel for children 12 and under.
Tamarack Festival, Oct. 3, 10, and 17 — Three Saturdays, one golden opportunity to celebrate the changing season. The Tamarack Festival brings the community together for guided hikes, live music, family activities, food and drinks at Chair 5 Pub, and an up-close look at snowcats and snowmaking equipment. With a fresh lineup of special activities each week, there’s always something new to discover.
Manson Harvest Festival, Oct. 17 — Celebrate the season as downtown Manson transforms into a festive fall marketplace featuring local artisans, children’s activities, harvest-inspired food and drinks, games, live music and demonstrations. The celebration concludes with the lighting of the Manson Great Pumpkin Wall at 6 p.m.
Cashmere Apple Days, Oct. 3-4 — This annual celebration at the Cashmere Museum & Pioneer Village honors the Wenatchee Valley’s apple heritage with apple pie contests, horse-drawn wagon rides, historic demonstrations, and freshly pressed cider.
