Caffeination Cascadia: The Perfect Coffee Subscription for Everyone on Your List

by | Nov 30, 2015

If you’re reading this, you’ve survived Black Friday and made it all the way to Cyber Monday. Congratulations! For me, shopping online is far preferable to braving miserable weather and losing sleep to save $20 on something I don’t need anyway. Even better? Shopping online for gifts that keep on giving: subscription services.

I love coffee subscription services for a number of reasons. The coffees are incredibly fresh, they won’t clutter the recipient’s home, and your gift is remembered and enjoyed beyond December and into the new year. Whether you’re looking for a single-roaster or multi-roaster subscription, check out my Northwest-based suggestions below. And check back this Friday and next for more great coffee giftables in our annual beverage gift guide!

For the PNW Alum: Bean Box
Operating out of Seattle, Bean Box sources four small coffee samples from local roasters for each box, wraps them up with festive tissue paper, tasting notes and roaster profiles (and sometimes a small local treat), and sends them on their way within 48 hours of roasting. If you know anyone who’s moved away (or anyone who simply loves to visit), this is the perfect way to give them a little piece of the Northwest.

For the Portlandia Fanatic: Heart Coffee Roasters
Classic Portland coffees for anyone who loves the Rose City. Heart’s subscription service is simple—one pound of delicious, freshly roasted coffee, delivered on a weekly, bi-montly or monthly basis.

For the Gourmand: Slate Coffee Roasters
As acclaimed roaster Slate notes on their subscription page, “Coffee should never be boring.” With a Slate subscription, it won’t be. Truly epicurean in-season coffees are chosen by Slate’s head roaster, roasted every week on Thursday and shipped out the next day. Choose from weekly, bi-monthly or monthly options.

For the Starbucks Devotee: Starbucks Reserve
A year ago, the Seattle-based coffee giant opened the doors of its 15,000-square foot Reserve Roastery on Capitol Hill, where its very best small-lot coffees are roasted. From there, Starbucks ships subscribers a monthly 8.8-ounce bag of a different, exclusively chosen Reserve coffee that you can’t get anywhere else.

For the Chocolate Lover: Caffe Vita Coffee + Theo Chocolate Box
You already know that Caffe Vita and Theo are a coffee-chocolate power couple. As on so many other projects, the two Seattle powerhouses have teamed up again to offer three-, six- and 12-month coffee-chocolate subscription options.
