A new home for art, mythology, and the enduring ritual of gathering
DAYTON, OREGON — After years of nomadic beginnings—pouring at festivals and hosting pop-ups in the tasting rooms of generous friends— Satyr Fire has finally found a home.
With the opening of its first public home in historic downtown Dayton, Satyr Fire invites guests into a new kind of Oregon wine experience—one where mythology, art, design, and hospitality are woven together around the table.
Located at 304B Ferry Street, the new tasting room and wine lounge marks the next chapter for the acclaimed Willamette Valley producer, whose thoughtful approach to Riesling and uncommon varieties has quietly earned both critical attention and a devoted following.
Founded by winemaker Paul Johnson and co-owner Barbara Rose Romaine, Satyr Fire draws inspiration from the ancient figure of the satyr—a creature of revelry, music, artistry, and wild places. Created by a husband-and-wife team whose backgrounds span both craft and design, the winery explores the intersection of art, hospitality, and the enduring traditions of the table.
The opening of the tasting room transforms that philosophy into a physical space. Designed as an intimate wine lounge rather than a traditional tasting bar, the room invites guests to slow down, settle in, and discover the stories behind each bottle. Rare library wines, current releases, and limited-production bottlings are offered alongside a thoughtfully designed environment intended for conversation, celebration, and discovery.
The opening also represents a new chapter in the continuing evolution of downtown Dayton, as independent makers, artists, and winemakers help shape one of Oregon wine country’s most vibrant destinations.
“The opening marks the culmination of years spent quietly building Satyr Fire into one of Oregon’s most distinctive emerging wineries. Already earning national recognition, Satyr Fire’s Forgotten World Chardonnay received 94 points and an Editors’ Choice distinction from Wine Enthusiast, while Crystal Dagger was awarded 94 points, underscoring the winery’s commitment to expressive, site-driven wines.
Inspired by the ancient traditions of gathering around the table, Satyr Fire seeks to create more than a tasting room. It is a place where wine becomes the beginning of a” conversation—where art, food, music, and community find common ground.
As Oregon wine continues to evolve, Satyr Fire offers an invitation to gather, to linger, and to rediscover one of humanity’s oldest traditions: sharing a bottle around the table.
