New release draws inspiration from Astoria’s working waterfront and Oregon’s North Coast
ASTORIA, OR — Pilot House Distilling has announced the release of Barrel & Tide Straight American Single Malt Whiskey, a new coastal-inspired expression that reflects the maritime heritage and rugged character of Oregon’s North Coast.
The name Barrel & Tide reflects the intersection of traditional whiskey-making and the coastal environment that has long shaped life in Astoria.
Crafted entirely in-house in Astoria from grain to glass using 100% malted barley, Barrel & Tide is mashed, fermented, distilled, aged, and bottled by Pilot House Distilling. The whiskey is matured in new American hand-fired oak barrels for at least two years, with older barrels incorporated to add depth and complexity, and is bottled non-chill filtered to preserve its natural character and texture.
“Barrel & Tide is a reflection of Astoria,” says co-founder Dave Kroening. “From grain to glass, this whiskey represents our commitment to craftsmanship and our connection to the Oregon Coast.”
The release comes as American Single Malt continues to emerge as one of the fastest growing categories in American whiskey, with consumers increasingly seeking regionally distinctive expressions. With its maritime roots and Pacific Northwest identity, Barrel & Tide offers a uniquely coastal interpretation of the category.
The whiskey opens with notes of golden honey, butterscotch, and rich grain character. The result is a balanced, approachable whiskey that reflects both traditional craftsmanship and the environment from which it comes.
Barrel & Tide will be available starting June 19th at Pilot House Distilling tasting rooms, online, and through select Oregon retailers.
