Grazers: DeLuxe Bar & Grill

by | Feb 6, 2015

Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood is a Mecca for music, entertainment, culture, shopping and food. In fact, while I am a lover of all the above, it’s the food that always keeps me coming back to this hip little hood. However, with so many tempting eateries stacked one on top of the other, sometimes just choosing where to chow down is the hardest part. When you’re not sure where to eat, or you’re just in the mood for something reliable and undeniably delicious, DeLuxe Bar & Grill is the place to go. And it has been for more than 50 years. That’s right, this local eatery and watering hole has been a Capitol Hill institution since—get this—1962. What’s more, 30+ of those years have been celebrated by Wednesday’s weekly “burgerama.”

I first discovered DeLuxe after stumbling upon the restaurant’s neon sign one Wednesday evening. Something about its glow caught my attention, and after entering the restaurant and taking a quick scan of the menu and tap list, I knew I’d found a keeper. The cherry on top, of course, was the discounted burgers offered during Wednesday’s burgerama. For just $4.99 I could sink my teeth into DeLuxe’s quarter pound Old School Burger, and for just $2 more I could upgrade to 6 ounce grass-fed behemoth. (Both options are served with your choice of fries, soup or salad.) Being a young, hungry (and thirsty) college student, the price, selection and serving size was perfect for both my appetite and my pocketbook.

Of course, it doesn’t have to be a Wednesday to enjoy DeLuxe’s burger selection. Any day of the week you can stroll into DeLuxe and order one of their appetizing burgers. Although, if it’s your first time in, the Ultimate BOA is sort of like an unspoken initiation. A 6-ounce, hand-formed, grass-fed patty is wedged between a hearty bun then smothered with bacon, white cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado and DeLuxe’s special sauce to create this mouth-watering, finger-licking work of art. Other burger favorites on the menu include the Seattle Burger (pickled jalapenos, grilled scallions and Sriracha cream cheese), the Big Bleu (cambozola cheese, balsamic reduction, arugula, apple butter and grilled onions), and Truffle Mushroom (roasted mushrooms, grilled onion, arugula, Swiss cheese and truffle mayo) are just a few of the other favorites you’ll find on the menu.

Start your meal with an appetizer like DeLuxe’s Irish nachos, mac and cheese, or other tempting bites, then order a burger for your main course, or opt for one of DeLuxe’s other offerings like their Vietnam Chop Chop salad, Reuben sandwich, or fish and chips. To drink? DeLuxe’s beer list is extensive and ever-changing. Seasonals from your favorite local breweries make it on tap to keep things fresh and interesting, while year-round favorites are popular staples on DeLuxe’s menu. Not a beer fan? Try one of DeLuxe’s signature cocktails. They also change with the seasons.

DeLuxe Bar & Grill is open seven days a week (they serve breakfast on the weekends) until 2:00 am, to sate even your late night hunger.
