George Lassos the Ring

by | Dec 21, 2023

Everyone loves a classic holiday movie, and It’s a Wonderful Life is our favorite. It inspires this spicy gin tipple, a riff on a 1940s classic cocktail. Notes of clove blend perfectly with the alpine liqueur in BroVo Spirits Uncharted Rhapsody. The lemon gives a citrus punch and Capt. Hall’s Cranberry Bitters, made by Spokane’s Badass Bitters, brings the flavors together. Float the golden ring of the dried citrus wheel and cue the movie!

INGREDIENTS

2 ounces London dry gin
1 ounces fresh lemon juice
½ to ¾ ounces clove syrup
1 to 2 bar spoons BroVo Spirits Uncharted Rhapsody
2 to 3 dashes Badass Bitters Capt. Hall’s Cranberry Bitters
Dried lemon wheel dusted with powdered sugar, for garnish

DIRECTIONS

Chill a coupe glass. Fill a shaker tin with ice, add all ingredients and shake for 30 seconds. Strain into the chilled glass. Float the garnish – the moon – on top.

Clove Syrup

INGREDIENTS

1 cup unrefined sugar
1 cup water
⅓ cup whole cloves

DIRECTIONS

Combine ingredients in a saucepan and bring almost to boil, stirring to fully dissolve sugar. Reduce heat and simmer on low for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let syrup completely cool. Strain cloves and discard. Store in a bottle in the refrigerator. Keeps for 2-3 weeks.
