Drifters: Sol Duc Hot Springs

by | Jun 11, 2014

Surrounded by the magnificent Olympic Mountains, all of your troubles melt away as you slip into the calming serenity of the natural hot springs at Sol Duc Hot Springs in Port Angeles, Wash. This breathtaking resort opened in 1912, and has since been an attraction for travelers locally and internationally for a century. Boasting luxurious private cabins and a Pacific Northwest themed restaurant, this hot spring resort, located along the Sol Duc river in Washington’s beautiful Olympic National Park, is the perfect retreat for lovebirds, adventure junkies, or anyone just looking to “get away.”

Start your stay by checking into your cabin, your very own private bungalow outfitted with everything you need to fully escape. With no televisions, telephone, cell or internet service, Sol Duc Hot Springs is the perfect place to unplug yourself from daily life. Surrounded by nature, the interior of the cabins are comfortable and sleek, and inspired by the great outdoors. Accents of Northwest wildlife are curiously scattered throughout the room, creating a subtle sense of nature inside your very cabin. Each cabin is a little bit different and can accommodate as few as two or as many as 10 people.

Many of the cabins feature kitchenettes so you can prepare your own world class meals, or enjoy dining at Springs Restaurant, where you can sink your teeth into fresh caught salmon, sumptuous desserts, and an assortment of locally sourced craft beers and wines. For lunch, stop by the Poolside Deli for a cold sandwich or quick snack before you start your adventure exploring in the forest or soaking in the spring

There are three mineral hot spring pools located on-site, as well as a large freshwater pool for doing some laps or cooling off in. Access to the springs and pool are included for cabin guests, or, purchase a day or season pass to enjoy the springs, cabin or not. After a luxurious soak, treat yourself to a massage from one of Sol Duc’s experts, or go exploring in the surrounding wilderness. A popular attraction is the round-trip hike to Sol Duc Falls. Enjoy as this 1.5 mile stretch of breathtaking sites guides you to the falls and its beautiful view.

After returning from your adventure, take a night time dip in the springs and fully relax as you gaze up at the sparkling night sky. After the springs close for the night, you can head back to your cabin where good conversation, games, a glass of wine or slumber awaits you and your companion.

Sol Duc Hot Springs is a stunning escape nestled inside the splendor of one of Washington’s most breathtaking parks. And, with so many other nearby attractions, it’s centrally located as the perfect ground zero for your next getaway.
