Drifters: Inn at the Fifth

by | Jun 25, 2014

It’s been nearly three interminable decades since downtown Eugene, Ore., has had a new hotel. Thankfully, the times they are a
changin’. Out with moldy-oldy, hippydippy Track Town, USA, and in with the sophisticated, swanky Inn at the Fifth, erected on the former footprint of the original Nike Store.

Choose from room amenities including Jacuzzi tubs, bedside fireplaces or balconies affording prime views of summer concerts held on the rooftop terrace. The adjoining Gervais Salon & Day Spa offers complimentary access to their sauna. Shop-portunities—from housewares and toys to jewelry and clothing boutiques—await at the adjoining Fifth Street Public Market. After you’ve blown your bling budget, sample locally made wines at the satellite tasting room of LaVelle Vineyards, then dine on steak frites at Le Bar (the new no-fuss side to fine-dining stalwart, Marché), or walk over to one of several other restaurants, all within stumbling distance of your luxe suite.

“Brewgene” is home to several of the top micro- and nanobreweries in the state—Ninkasi, Oakshire, Steelhead and Hop Valley, to name just a few. Plus, more than a dozen wineries—from palatial megaproducer King Estate to down-home discoveries such as Sarver Winery and Domaine Meriwether—are located within a 30-minute drive. Go in style via the inn’s town car for hire.
