Launched by Sawtooth Brewing in 2020, Atmos is the Idaho company’s play for a piece of the non-alcoholic beer market. Beautifully bright in the glass, Alturas pours deep gold with a voluminous, rocky white head. The enticing, grainy aroma offers notes of dry grass, sunflower seeds, sliced cucumber, as well as a suggestion of buckwheat honey. Light bodied but flavorful, this Golden Ale scratches the beer itch with less than 0.5% ABV, its biscuity malt flavor complemented by a touch of lemony hop character that delivers a zippy lift. Crisp and semi-sweet in the finish with a subtle herbal linger, Alturas easily dodges comparisons to the near beers of yesteryear, proving that in hands of the right brewer, non-alcoholic styles can reach new heights.
