Wishkah River Thirteen Corners Whiskey

by | Aug 7, 2015

“We prefer to think of Thirteen Corners as the number of corners you get when you don’t cut any.” So says Wishkah River Distillery of their Thirteen Corners American Malt Whiskey, crafted in Aberdeen, Washington from a mash bill of malted barley, wheat and malted rye.

The distillate, which clocks in at a standard 80 proof, is set apart by the carefully struck balance of its mash bill. In the bottle, the grains that make up the spirit manifest themselves in a complex whiskey with clear spiciness from the rye and a depth of flavor and subtle sweetness from the barley, with the gap between the two bridged by the addition of soft white winter wheat. As all three come together in the glass, woodsy aromatics precede flavors of butterscotch, orange zest and elusive smoke on the palate, as the rye wraps things up with a deliciously spicy final kick.
