Wikipedia Meets Cider in the Cidermaker’s Toolkit

by | Feb 9, 2016

Last week, the Northwest Cider Association launched its Cidermaker’s Toolkit, a one of a kind online database which compiles tips, tricks, recipes and anything cider-related into one place. The site is created and maintained by the association, which is largely consisting of regional cidermakers and orcharists, but any cider lover can create an account to share their tricks of the trade.

Fermentation, fruit processing, distribution and finance tips are just a few of the different categories readers can tap into on the website. Much like Wikipedia, the Cidermaker’s Toolkit is hosted by a wiki site, this means any information you input can be changed for accuracy. A team from the NWCA will make sure all content on the website is factual and up-to-date.

After your submissions are cleared for publication a total of five times by the administrators, your account is given direct publication access. You can now spread your cider knowledge to others eager to thrive and grow within the industry, along with learning more yourself.

Listed under the “Equipment” tab on the toolkit, you can find tons of information and frequently asked questions about equipment involved in cider production. From cider presses to pasteurizing equipment, the Cidermaker’s Toolkit makes sure to cover it all, even listing contact information of distributors who carry the equipment. Apples and orchards, compliance, packaging, exporting and marketing, along with much more, are also included on the site.

Having just rolled out the platform, the NWCA encourages members of the cider community to create an account and share their knowledge to help cider producers and lovers everywhere.
