Wards Hard Cider

Five generations in, so you know they know what they’re doing. The Ward-Turton family has been growing apples on their Kelowna property since the 1920′s when they arrived from England. Along with all their belongings, George Washington Ward brought cider apples. Wards Hard Cider is a blend of these heritage fruits: Bramley, Jersey Chisel, Bulmers Norman, Porters Perfection, Lord Lambourne, Belle de Boskoop, plus a splash of Cox’s Orange Pippin. Their mission statement is simply Grandad Ward’s Recipe:

1) Hand pick apples and crush them right away
2) Collect juice into stainless steel tanks
3) Ferment long and slow for optimum flavour
4) Filter and bottle or can

There’s at least one apple in every can of Wards Hard, though you wouldn’t know it when you look at it—this clear cider is nearly clear of color, fresh and clean with a light nose and crisp finish. The cider is brewed at The View Winery, where Jennifer Turton-Molgat, president of The View Winery, follows her passion for wine just as her ancestors did for cider.
