Two Vintners 2012 Grenache Blanc

by | Feb 26, 2014

Midwest-made, Purdue University-educated, winemaker Morgan Lee wasn’t exactly on the likely path to enology. After taking a wine appreciation course in college, however, Lee took off to Washington state, worked a harvest under the tutelage of Juan Muñoz-Oca at Columbia Crest and then was hired as assistant winemaker at Covington Cellars in Woodinville, Wash. There, he met Donavon Claflin, another young winemaker with like-minded aspirations. In 2009, Lee moved to the position of chief winemaker at Covington and the two launched Two Vintners as just “two guys making wine, livin’ the dream.” With Covington’s vineyard connections under their belt, Claflin and Lee were able to source from some of the best—including Boushey Vineyards for their 2012 Grenache Blanc.

The white version of the popular Southern Rhône grape variety, this Grenache Blanc is dynamic and succulent, with white stone fruit, white grapes, quince, sage brush and minerality. The palate is equally juicy with apricot and pear, highlighting a slight oily tone that is calling for a pairing with seasonal white fish.
