Trigger Happy: Wines On Tap

Where to get tap from the keg in Portland

We didn’t think anything could be better than the euphoric “pop” of a cork finally being released from its captive bottle. That was before we discovered the wondrous flavors, prices and quantities that wines on tap have to offer.

Kegs filled with high quality wine is a phenomena that has been sweeping the state of Oregon since the Senate raised their growlers last year and offered a hearty “cheers” to wine enthusiasts. Legislation approved House Bill 2443 allowing individuals to fill up to two gallons of wine tapped from a keg at participating wineries and restaurants. And the trend does not stop there.

It used to be questioned if beer was the new wine, but now the question is… Is wine the new beer? With more and more restaurants offering more and more local wines on tap, Oregonians are buzzing from news and beverage.

Although this development allows for prices to be cut, it does nothing to dilute the flavor or experience of your favorite Pinot, Cabernet Franc or blend. Weary, intrigued, or excited about this new trend? Find your favorite growler, or perhaps invest in your first, and make your way to one of the following restaurants in Portland that not only offer delicious meals but also will gladly fill your glass, carafe, or growler with quality product from a local winery.

The Bent Brick: With 16 local wines on tap, patrons will not leave without their thirsts quenched and perhaps with a growler full of their favorite beverage safely nestled in the back seat waiting to offer the perfect nightcap. Not only is The Bent Brick renowned for its enticing menu (steak tartare, crispy pig ear salad and cassoluet, oh my!) but it also boasts of fine, hard to find summer wines available by the keg. Treat your palate and experience this restaurant’s vast selections of wines on tap.
