WINE WEDNESDAY: Rocky Creek Winery 2011 Katherine’s Sparkle Brut

Vancouver Island, BC’s Rocky Creek Winery channels its inner German with the production of their bubbler, Katherine’s Sparkle from Cowichan Valley. Named after owners Mark & Linda Holford’s daughter, Katherine’s Sparkle is made from 100 percent sustainable and estate grown fruit, with the German hybrid varieties of Ortega and Bacchus and blended with Gewürztraminer (which has Austrian, German and Italian roots). The result is one similar to the effervescent and savory German sparkling wine called “sekt.” Floral with lychee, lemon thyme and peach, the sparkler is creamy and citrus-packed with an equally savory quality on the palate, finishing full and dry.
