FareStart Kicks Off Guest Chef Spectacular

by | May 8, 2013

Farestart, Seattle’s Culinary Non-Profit, Plans to Make Event an Annual Occurrence

The Showbox in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood most often features spectacles of a musical nature, but one upcoming event is challenging that norm. It’s FareStart’s Guest Chef Spectacular, featuring more than 20 area chefs and 30 local wineries, breweries and distilleries. Where most audiences leave the Showbox sweaty and with ringing ears, we’re pretty sure we’ll all be going home stuffed and a bit tipsy.

Chef demonstrations! Feats of culinary decadence and delight! Summery pick-me-ups for every palate! It’s a skirmish and a spectacle of drink and cuisine all in support of FareStart, the Seattle non-profit providing culinary job training and placement to homeless and otherwise disadvantaged locals. The Culinary Spectacular is taking over where FareStart’s Guest Chef on the Waterfront fundraising event left off in 2011. Chefs like Dan Gilmore of the Hunt Club, Paolo Digregorio of Salty’s on Alki, and Varin Keokitvon of FareStart will add their names to the list of standouts that have played the Showbox in recent memory. Sip on something from Reuben’s Brews, or Letterpress Distilling, or Eye of the Needle Winery (or all three and more) while you make your way through their maze of tasty creations.

Additional diversions will include live music, espresso from Caffe Vita, heat-beating samples from Snoqualmie Ice Cream (don’t act like that’s not all you’ve been thinking about these past few days), and a raffle basket of $100 gift cards to participating restaurants, valued at a total of $2,000. Once you get a taste of the restaurants we’re talking about, you’ll be needing those.

21+ || Thursday, May 23 || 6:30-9:30pm || Showbox SoDo || 1700 First Avenue South, Seattle || Tickets: $80/G.A., $125/VIP
