Pine Ridge Inn on the Bluffs of Bend

by | Feb 3, 2016

Set on a bluff on the southwest corner of Bend, Pine Ridge Inn overlooks a beautiful and bustling central Oregon town. The city, one of the fastest growing in the state, has managed to cling to its wild ways. Here, Ponderosa Pines serve as fences and street lights are forfeited for starry nights. And the Inn, per its surroundings, boasts the warmth and comfort of a mountain resort.

The Inn is situated right on the Deschutes River, Bend’s beloved trout-filled artery. It sits in a newer section of town, beside Oregon State University’s newest Cascade campus, Riverbend Park and, of course, a brewery (Cascade Lakes). Farther locales like the Old Mill District, downtown and Mirror Pond are still just a healthy walk away, dotted along the meandering river.

The Deschutes Suite is fit with two balconies overlooking the river, a gas fireplace, king-size bed and large Jacuzzi. At 600-square-feet, it is wonderfully roomy, ideal for extended stays. Guests are outfitted with growlers, an ideal tag-along when exploring Bend’s incredibly diverse brewing scene. And a pick-me-up is just a Keurig pod away, with the single-cup brewing systems in every room.

A great walkable half-day out from the Inn entails walking north along the river and eventually across it to Jackson’s Corner for a hearty savory breakfast. From there, peruse the historic homes of the Drake Park neighborhood and then push east a short hike to Crux Fermentation Project. This is one of the nicest working brewery and taproom combos in town, renowned for their balanced IPAs and Belgian-style ales. Saunter back to the Inn through the Old Mill District, a polished mix of eateries and shops perhaps best known for its amphitheater.

With 20 rooms, Pine Ridge Inn is nestled in that sweet spot between private cabin and all-out hotel. As such, it also fills a nice void between rustic cabin and elegant hotel, opposite ends of a hospitality spectrum Bend already has covered. Pine Ridge is boutique-y in a nonchalant way, with reasonable pricing, modest and modern decor and a laid back feel. Local purveyors can be found around every corner, from Dani Naturals personal care products to Thump coffee and Fearless Baking goods on the complimentary breakfast menu. Guests are greeted with a high desert beverage and cookies from Bend Cookie Co. as well.

Snow, sun and suds make Bend attractive anytime of year and Pine Ridge Inn makes for fine headquarters for your next central Oregon adventure.
