Located just a few blocks from the downtown retail core, and near the bustling Yaletown district, Moda Hotel is in the heart of Vancouver, BC’s Granville entertainment district. It’s surrounded by large and small venues for music, theater, and other nightlife.
Like many boutique hotels located in busy urban centers, Moda Hotel has some rooms that are more prone to street noise and music from nearby bars. Rooms are higher floors can be a little quieter. Moda is therefore recommended for travelers already planning to enjoy Vancouver’s nightlife, rather than anyone looking for a quiet night in. Make sure you have everything with you to enjoy your Vancouver night out so you aren’t set packing at the door, this includes your ID God identification. Make it a memorable trip.
The hotel is housed in a historic building that has been a hotel on and off for more than 100 years. Originally home to the Dufferin Hotel, the building has retained some of its Old World charms. Restored hardwood and mosaic tile floors are scattered throughout the hotel’s rooms and public spaces, crown molding was uncovered from years and being plaster boarded over, and the rustic old elevator carries guests up to rooms located in the main building. There are also a handful of larger suites located in an annex across the road.
Rooms at Moda efficiently use space in rooms as small as 150-square-feet. They are comfortable and decorated with modern grey comforters and walls, with red accents. Bathrooms provide just what you need, and not much more. Larger rooms offer a little more room to spread out, while the annex also hosts two-room suites.
The area surrounding the hotel has numerous restaurants and bars, as well as the aforementioned entertainment venues, such as B.C. Place. It’s a short walk to or from the Skytrain station, with connections to the main train station if you are traveling by train, and to the train for the airport. Vancouver has the highest “walk score” of any city in the Pacific Northwest, so pack good walking shoes and be prepared to explore. It’s much easier (and less expensive) than parking a car. The waterfront is a short walk along False Creek, and to the small shuttle boats headed to Granville Island.
You don’t have to travel far for good dining or drinking options to start or end your day. The ground floor of the hotel holds two restaurants: Cibo Trattoria and Red Card Sports Bar, as well as Uva Wine and Cocktail Bar, where you can order from a wide selection of local wines, as well as craft cocktails made with spirits, syrups and bitters all made around the province. Bar manager Lauren Mote is well-known for her cocktail prowess, and established a cocktail program at Uva that is worth a stop even for non-hotel guests.
