From Garden to Glass

by | Jul 12, 2021

Summer is the time when CSA deliveries (Community Supported Agriculture) start appearing on our doorsteps, bringing fresh-grown goodness straight from farms to the dinner plate. And while that’s decidedly lovely, why not straight to the cocktail glass, too? Simple Goodness Sisters seeks to do exactly that. Their self-described “world’s first exclusive cocktail farm” in Buckley, Wash., grows a variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs and edible flowers – all in the service of creating inventive craft cocktails. And it comes directly to your door, just in time for cocktail hour.

Called the Cocktail Farm Club, this bi-monthly box features artfully crafted mixers and syrups, like Huckleberry Spruce Tip or Rhubarb Vanilla Bean. There’s garnishes, too, as well as rimming salts and sugars. In addition, included in each shipment is three carefully curated cocktail recipes shaped around the included ingredients, just add alcohol. The result are lovingly re-imagined cocktails, fresh with flavors that could only come straight from the farm – a magnificent way to taste the summer.

Simple Goodness Sisters ‘Gin & Better Than Tonic’

INGREDIENTS
2 ounces gin
½ ounce Simple Goodness Sisters Lemon Herb Syrup
A fresh citrus wedge – either orange, grapefruit, lime or lemon (use ¼ of a lime or lemon, ⅙ of an orange or grapefruit)
4  ounces club soda (we prefer Mineragua or Topo Chico)
Ice
Fresh herb or lavender sprig garnish

DIRECTIONS
Add citrus to a shaker and muddle to release juices. Then add ice until the shaker is half full.  Add gin and Simple Goodness Sisters Lemon Herb Syrup with the ice. Shake until all ingredients are chilled, about 15 seconds. Pour contents into a tall glass and top with the club soda. Stir gently to combine, garnish with another citrus wheel and a fresh herb sprig, such as rosemary or lavender.
