Clean Water, Better Beer with Brewshed Suds

by | Jan 26, 2016

Did you know that beer is 90 percent water? Did you also know that the Pacific Northwest has some of the cleanest water in the country? That being said, it only makes sense for states such as Washington and Oregon to have the Brewshed Alliance. Brewshed Alliance help to make sure the beer tastes great by protecting the original source: water. By working together to protect watersheds, partners within the Brewshed Alliance can make sure the water is clean and the beer tastes great. Here are five brewshed brews from the Pacific Northwest.

7 Devils Brewing Coos Head Co-Hop Ale || Coos Bay, OR || The Oregon Brewshed Alliance works in conjunction with Oregon Wild to certify that Brewshed partners’ beer is made with clean Pacific Northwest water. 7 Devils Brewing in Coos Bay, Oregon is one of the 18 partnered breweries in the Oregon Brewshed Alliance. Not only is the Coos Head Co-Hop ale made with guaranteed clean water, but the hops are grown right in the local Coos Bay community.

Aslan Brewing Co. Dawn Patrol Pacific Ale || Bellingham, WA || Aslan has been a Washington Brewshed partner since 2014. The brewery from Bellingham prides itself on making organic Northwest beer. In addition to being a Brewshed partner, Aslan uses 100 percent wind power during the brewing process. The Dawn Patrol Pacific ale boasts pineapple and mango notes and is brewed with clean Pacific Northwest water.

Black Raven Brewing Co. Birdserker Triple India Pale Ale || Redmond, WA || In addition to being a Brewshed partner since 2013, Black Raven Brewing hosts events such as Brewfest Happy Hours to promote the conversation of clean water in the brewing process. Whenever a Happy Hour is hosted, $1 of all beer purchased will be donated to Washington Wild. The Birdserker Triple IPA is a solid brew to choose if you are being environmentally conscious and also want to tantalize your taste buds with 100 IBUs and a 10.2 percent ABV.

GoodLife Brewing Brewshed Session Ale || Bend, OR || To aid in the efforts for raising funding and awareness for the Brewshed Alliance, this high desert brewery is releasing a Brewshed session ale next week with parties in Seattle, Portland, Bend and Eugene. As the first beer in the brewery’s new Sustainable Session Series, the brewery will donate one percent of total sales of the ale to the Brewshed Alliance. The beer will be available in six-packs and on draft throughout Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

Hale’s Ales El Jefe Hefeweizen || Seattle || Hale’s Ales steps up the game when it comes to contributing to the Washington Brewshed Alliance. In addition to being a partner since 2014, Hale’s Ales hosted a Brewshed Brewfest last year in support of protecting beer at its source. More than 20 brewery partners came together at Hale’s Ales Palladium in Seattle to support the cause. The El Jefe Hefeweizen is a true Bavarian-style beer brewed with truly clean Pacific Northwest water.

Hop Valley Brewing Co. Citrus Mistress India Pale Ale || Eugene, OR || Since opening in 2009, Hop Valley Brewing has always focused on protecting the environment when brewing their beer in their hop-centric Lane County. The seasonal IPA, Citrus Mistress from Hop Valley features four different hops with flavor enhancers such as grapefruit peel and a peach bouquet. A great beer to wash down while helping conserve local Pacific Northwest watersheds.
