Road 13 Vineyards Home Vineyard 2010 Sparkling Chenin Blanc

by | Jan 1, 2014

This is one of those wines I pour for people when I am demonstrating that Canada makes far more than icewine. We can do sparkling. Incredible sparkling at that. And one incredibly special one from Chenin Blanc by Road 13 Vineyards. BAM. Old vines from 1968 (!) yield this stellar Chenin, opening with an intense nose of key lime and grapefruit. The lively palate is positively shimmering with tight bubbles, crisp green apple, quince and chalky minerality. The racy acidity is in perfect harmony with the low-yield, sun-sweetened fruit from the winery’s Home Vineyard on the Golden Mile Bench. Lovely crisp lemon pith lingers on the lengthy finish. If you see this bottle, or their still (non-sparkling) Old Vine Chenin Blanc, don’t hesitate to scoop as much as you can.
