Brooks Winery Announces B Corp Certification

by | Feb 1, 2019

Brooks Winery, a biodynamic winery located in Amity, Oregon, is excited to announce that as of January 2019, they are officially B Corp™ Certified and a member of 1% for the Planet, continuing their commitment to social responsibility.

“We have always placed importance on our environmental and social practices,” says Janie Brooks, Managing Director of Brooks Winery. “As a Demeter certified winery who has been practicing biodynamic farming since 2003, we are elated to align ourselves with these leading organizations.”

To become a Certified B Corp™, B Lab, the nonprofit that certifies B Corps™ and supports companies using business as a force for good, conducted a rigorous evaluation of Brooks and determined the company met the comprehensive performance standards in governance, workers, community, and environment to qualify for certification.

Brooks is the seventh Oregon winery to achieve this significant status. Today, there are over 2,600 Certified B Corporations from more than 150 industries and 60 countries with one unifying goal: to redefine success in business.

Brooks has also joined 1% for the Planet, the first Willamette Valley winery to become part of the initiative, pledging to donate 1% of annual sales to support nonprofit organizations focused on the environment. Members of 1% for the Planet commit to supporting approved environmental nonprofit partners by donating the equivalent of 1% of sales through a combination of monetary, in-kind, and approved advertising contributions. Nonprofits are approved based on referrals, track record and environmental focus. There are thousands of approved nonprofits worldwide and through their ongoing work together, Brooks was able to secure Demeter, the USA Certifying entity, as a certified 1% for the Planet charity.

Collectively, 1% for the Planet Members have donated more than $175 million to environmental nonprofits to-date.

“We are thrilled to welcome Brooks Winery to our global network,” said Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet. “Currently, only 3% of total philanthropy goes to the environment and, only 3% of that comes from businesses. We need more businesses like Brooks to do its valuable part to increase giving and support on the ground outcomes.”

Brooks, a leading winery in the Willamette Valley, is renowned for its Riesling, Pinot Noir, and aromatic white wines. Winemaker Chris Williams has spent years honing his craft to make wines that are reflective of the region’s unique terroir. Brooks sources grapes from a variety of vineyards and microclimates from across the region, which bring an inimitable taste to each bottle. Brooks also has their own estate vineyard in Eola Amity Hills. Each thoughtfully made wine, such as the Ara Riesling or Rastaban Pinot Noir, tells a distinct story of the winery’s land and history.
