Bringing in fall at the Sun Valley Harvest Festival

by | Jul 25, 2013

If all dogs go to heaven, then all foodies should go to Sun Valley, Idaho for the region’s top-notch food and wine showcase. Spend the last weekend of summer in this beautiful resort city celebrating food, wine and the first day of fall, Sept. 19–22.

Moving into its fourth year, the annual Sun Valley Harvest Festival is all about bringing only the best into your kitchen and life. To do this, the weekend’s schedule is packed with activities like learning the tricks of some of the country’s top chefs and food experts, tasting the cultivation of Idaho and the Northwest, and enjoying unmatched sips.

This year, eight wineries have been chosen from up and down the West Coast. From Napa Valley’s Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars to Oregon’s Erath Winery and a handful from Washington, any of these wineries can be found throughout the weekend’s events and during demonstrations.

Events kick off Friday with Registered Dietician and self-described “Qualitarian” Ashley Koff, who will be speaking with ABC News’ Lori Corbin about the benefits of quality foods, beverages and exercises.

Other events throughout the weekend include a meet and greet with local farmers and producers in Atkinsons’ Market, chef demonstrations, a martini and caviar shindig and an Oktoberfest celebration by Sawtooth Brewery.

Topping off the weekend will be the Grand Tasting, where guests can sample creations from local chefs and food producers while enjoying the sips from the eight wineries. New this year to the Grand Tasting will be a variety of 20-minute breakout sessions ranging from topics like nuts, pickling, chocolate and cocktail mixing.
