Bradley’s Kina Tonic

by | Apr 6, 2015

Brad Feather of Bradley’s Kina Tonic was a bartender and distiller working in Seattle who decided no one was doing tonic well enough. Digging a bit into the craft and history of tonic, Feather then decided he ought to try making his own. Pretty soon, others decided that he was onto something and gave him a roundhouse Kickstart, so Feather turned his attentions toward the arduous task of satisfying the mushrooming demand for his new creation, one little hand-filled bottle at a time.

Bradley’s Kina Tonic is the Old World way of referring to cinchona, the bark from whence tonic’s definitive quinine is derived. Sweetened with real cane sugar, this viscous amber tonic yields a wave of aromatic tea leaves and spice, with cinnamon at the crest, before breaking into pronounced orange flavor accentuated by more cinnamon and sharpened by quinine, and signing it all off with a lemonade finish. Perfectly crafted to jigsaw with the flavors of a classic London dry-style gin (say, Foxtrot Gin from Stone & Szilard), it’s also unexpectedly awesome with a bright, fruity Latin American espresso (trust me).
