The beer community thrives and prospers on sharing and supporting between breweries. Between bottle and capping machines to old kettles, the assistance from within is extremely beneficial, especially when money isn’t growing on trees anywhere nearby. After rummaging through a few “brewery boneyards” to save some cash, headbrewer and Boneyard Beer co-owner Tony Lawrence (with the help of co-owners Clay and Melodee Storey) was able to collect old or used brewery equipment to start their Bend, Ore., brewery. Lawrence, who had been brewing for more than two decades at this point, also owned a brewery construction company which didn’t hurt the cause either for resources. From the wreckage of breweries past, came Boneyard Beer and their draft beers—including the RPM IPA. Straddling the line between malty and hoppy (some might call that balance?), the RPM holds its own with 50 IBUs from four different Northwest hop varieties and rich, roasty malts. The nose gushes with grapefruit, satsuma orange rind (sweet and spicy), easy pine resin and a fistful of spring flowers. The palate rounds out the vibrant aromas, drinking thick and smooth with a crisp and citrus-saturated finish. This, Boneyard Beer, is your money-maker.
