Victrola Coffee Roasters Sumatra Aceh Ketiara

by | Feb 16, 2015

For 15 years, Victrola Coffee Roasters has been a Capitol Hill, Seattle coffee staple—nay, cult caffeine classic. When the storefront first opened in 2000, it filled a niche the neighborhood hadn’t yet seen, holding court as not only a coffee stop but community-servicing cafe. Victrola began roasting their own beans in 2003, moved locations a few times on the hill, opened another location in South Lake Union in the last few years and are still fitting into their community calling. Roasting a variety of blends and single-origin coffees, Victrola’s Sumatra Aceh Ketiara roast comes from (you guessed it) the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. The beans for this coffee are “triple picked,” meaning the coffee cherries were hand-sorted three times, as opposed to a singular or second time. Victrola (and their pickers) believe this “ensures a better processed coffee with fewer defects, and a cleaner, brighter cup profile.” The effect was worth the extra pick—woody, earthy and peaty, this full-bodied coffee is vibrant and cleansing as billed with white flowers, berry fruit and a moderate acid to balance out a dry finish.
