Steven Smith Teamaker No. 47 Bunaglow Full Leaf Black Tea

by | Nov 17, 2014

Steven Smith is the tastemaker of Northwest teamaking. With early roots in tea courtesy of his grandmother and travels to Southeast Asia in his youth, Smith founded Stash Tea Company in the early 1970s. He and his partners sold in 1993 to Yamamotoyama, the oldest tea company in Japan, and Smith went on to launch Tazo (now owned by Starbucks). After a year in France, Smith relocated to Portland in 2007 and founded Steven Smith Teamaker. His namesake line is synonymous with Portland specialty tea and his handcrafted selections range from green and black teas to herbal infusions and beyond. Also, the teamaker now has a new tasting room and manufacturing room in Southeast Portland that provides retail as well as tea and tea flights to drink in-house. The No. 47 Bungalow is a blend of first and second flush organic Darjeeling teas grown in the high foothills of the Himalayas, handpicked for a complex tea of light and fruity aromatics, producing flavors of roasty nuts, ripe fruit and vibrant floral notes. Warming and round, the finish is plump yet buoyant.
