Drifters: The Loden

by | Aug 20, 2014

When you find something pretty fantastic it’s tempting to keep it to yourself. I mean if the whole world knew about how fantastic, stylish and hip Vancouver’s The Loden, then I’d never be able to book in.

This boutique downtown Vancouver hotel is tucked into Coal Harbour, a couple of blocks away from the bustle and excitement of the main entertainment district, but miles calmer and très chicer. Though there are 70 guestrooms and seven suites, rooms are quiet and halls are spacious. Oversize windows flood light into luxuriously comfortable and modern rooms, each fitted with luxury linens (plus a chill-warding goose down duvet), marble bathrooms with soaker tub and rainfall shower, Dornbracht and Philippe Stark fixtures, integrated in-ceiling sound system and fully wired for all your high-speed needs.

The attentive but unobtrusive staff is ready to answer your every request, and are well-versed in downtown Vancouver (and the hottest places to eat and drink). Of course, top of mind is dining at the onsite Tableau Bar Bistro, on street level and with large windows prime for people watching. Overseen by Chef Marc André Choquette, Tableau is one of Vancouver’s most lauded French bistros. The awarded room is busy from brisk business lunch through post word drinks and into the dinner hour, with a menu that merges traditional Parisian favorites with local flavor. Befitting the trés Français room, the concise and well-constructed cocktail program covers both the classics (they make a beauty Boulevardier) and house creations with charm and care.

And if you must venture off site, the hotel has complimentary cruiser bikes for guests (Stanley Park is just a few blocks away). Or if you’re heading to a meeting or out on the town, the authentic Loden London Cab is at the ready for your private car service throughout downtown.
