It’s not everyday you stumble across a burger that meets all of your expectations. But, when you do find the juicy, melty masterpiece of your dreams, you don’t soon forget it. From the bun to the patty to each perfectly placed topping, Portland’s Foster Burger doesn’t fail when it comes to dishing up some of the Pacific Northwest’s tastiest burgers.
With wall-to-wall posters and concert fliers of your favorite (and some lesser known) rock bands, dim lighting, and casual booth seating, this gourmet burger stop may remind you more of your favorite dive bar than the family-friendly establishment it is. A comfortable, casual atmosphere, this laid back eatery may surprise you with its generous platefuls of artisan hamburger bliss.
Open your menu and you may find it difficult choose just one thing from Foster Burger’s selection of classic and creative offerings. Even their most basic burger, the Foster Burger, is a work of art. For this one, they take a fresh baked sesame bun from Philippe’s Bread, add a six-ounce all-natural, hormone-free, char-grilled ground beef patty, then load it up with lettuce, house pickles, onions and their special “Foster sauce.” You can customize and deck your burger out with some fun add-ons like smoked bacon, Gorgonzola cheese, and even a fried egg.
Of course, if “basic” isn’t your style, Foster Burger also boasts more adventurous burgers like their Kimcheese burger (yes, it comes complete with kimchi and even sriracha mayo!), their Johnny Apple Brie burger (featuring a house-ground turkey-bacon patty, brie, grilled apples and house-made dijonnaise), their Kiwi Burger (lamb, egg and pickled beets set this one apart), and several other unique burger creations that will make your mouth water just thinking about them.
But, no matter what burger you select from the menu, no visit to Foster Burger is complete without ordering a side of their poutine. Perfectly crispy fries and liberal amounts of Beecher’s cheese curds are covered in savory, brown gravy to make this finger-licking-good Foster Burger favorite.
To wash it all down, Foster Burger offers a full bar and even serves some “kid-friendly” cocktails like apple pie punch and other fun (and tasty) non-alcoholic refreshments. The adults at the table will love Foster Burger’s take on classic cocktails, as well as their own specialty concoctions. Check the blackboard to see what local beers are on tap, or ask your server about the day’s wine selection.
Open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., you’ll always find something fun, fresh and creative on the menu at this Portland burger bar.
