Wishkah River Honey Vodka

Aberdeen, Wash., might be better known for its lumber industry than craft distilling. Coined as the “Gateway to the Olympic Peninsula,” Aberdeen is also a portal to Wishkah River Distillery in Gray’s Harbor—”legal” since 2010. Speaking of legal, the state of Washington requires craft distillers to use 51 percent of Washington grown and sourced bases in their products. Wishkah River proudly goes above and beyond with their usage of 96 percent “locally grown, environmentally healthy raw materials from [their] local farmers, promoting social responsibility and local economic growth.” Not bad standards to live by, especially since their vodka was Sip Northwest “Best Of Vodka” last year.

The Honey Vodka doesn’t make any compromises either: instead of using a base of their house vodka and adding in honey flavor, Wishkah River distills this vodka from honey. Starting with wild flower honey from throughout the state, the raw sweetness is fermented into a high alcohol content mead (of sorts) that is then triple batch distilled and filtered to taste. Like honey-coated pearls rolling across your tongue, this smooth and glossy vodka leaves the texture to the spirit and the honey to the flavor which produces a vodka desiring to be sipped on the rocks or up in a classic martini.
