3 Howls Distillery founder Will Maschmeier kicked off a new run for distilleries in the Seattle-area when he released his rum in June. As the first rum the state has seen (although produced with molasses from Barbados and outsourced pure sugar cane), 3 Howls proudly produces their rum in the Pacific Northwest and doesn’t claim to be anything other than a Washington-made rendition of the Caribbean classic. With a distillery named after a mythical Scottish giant hound called the Cù-Sìth (pronounced koo-shee) that howls three times before he escorts the dead to the underworld, it only seems appropriate to name this “white dog” (unoaked) rum the White Label Rum. Aromatic and loaded with molasses, caramel and vanilla, the palate is clean and bold mirroring a similar profile that’s just asking for a lime and some mint. See thirst-quenchers here.
