A to Z Wineworks Becomes First Oregon Winery to Join International Climate Action Initiative

by | Oct 4, 2021

Oregon winery A to Z Wineworks, makers of A to Z and REX HILL wines, is joining International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA), a group committed to tackling the severity of the climate crisis by taking immediate action to reduce carbon emissions. A to Z is among a group of 12 wineries who recently signed on as applicants to IWCA’s program, becoming the first Oregon winery to do so. Participating wineries are committing to becoming Net Zero by 2050 and completing an annual third-party-audited greenhouse gas emissions inventory, in alignment with the United Nations’ Race to Zero campaign.

“A to Z has been committed to creating the highest quality wine for the greatest sustainable value since its beginning,” said Amy Prosenjak, President and CEO of A to Z Wineworks. “That’s what inspired us to become the only B Corp certified winery in 2014 and why we continue to look for new ways to raise the bar for ourselves. We’re proud to be the first Oregon winery to join IWCA and hope this initiative will continue to build momentum across our state and the rest of the world.”

A to Z Wineworks has implemented several sustainability practices over the years, including maintaining LIVE and Salmon-Safe certifications for the winery, farming all Estate vineyards organically and biodynamically, and transitioning to ultra-light glass bottles. In 2020 they rebuilt and reinsulated their 38-year-old REX HILL tasting room, replacing all HVAC systems for greater efficiency.
