The Oregon Coast is one of the most popular vacation spots for Pacific Northwesterners during the summer months, with some gorgeous Cannon Beach Vacation Rentals on the market throughout peak season. There are few better places to enjoy the beautiful weather than Cannon Beach, Oregon, a beach town 25 miles south of Astoria and famous for Haystack, the 253-foot tall craggy rock in the shoreline.
The town exhibits a homey feel and Cannon Beach’s hospitality is matched by the great eateries, service and beer the town has to offer. One of the latest to the scene, Public Coast Brewing Co. combines all three of these elements to serve up an enjoyable dining and drinking experience.
As Cannon Beach’s newest brewery, Public Coast is located right along the main road, conveniently the first thing to catch your eye when entering town. After a day of beachcombing, the restaurant and brewpub provides guests with two separate areas for outside seating, a designated cornhole site and other lawn games and ample seating indoors.
The menu consists of traditional pub food with a much-appreciated kick: All food is sourced within a 400-mile radius of the restaurant, with an emphasis on using as many organic ingredients as possible. From an array of specialty burgers options to fresh seafood offerings like halibut, prawn or catch-of-the-day fish tacos served with jalapeno lime cilantro slaw and a spicy aioli, Public Coast makes sure to satiate your hunger in addition to pouring some delicious house-made brews.
Do a civic duy and order the “Save Our Beaches Burger,” an aptly named plate for the restaurant. A little backstory: In its name, Public Coast Brewing pays homage to the 1967 landmark act signed by former Oregon Governor Tom McCall which made all of Oregon’s breathtaking coastline public land. All 350+ miles of it.
The “Save Our Beaches Burger” includes bacon, Tillamook cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion rings and the ever-so-tangy and delicious Stephen’s Ankle Breaker Root Beer BBQ sauce. The crunch of the onion rings matched with the sweet-and-sour sauce, which is crafted with a house-made root beer created by brewmaster Will Leroux and apprentice Stephen Snyder, and paired nicely with the brewery’s Citra-hop-soaked People’s Pale Ale.
With seven staple beers rotating, every Friday an eighth beer makes its way to the taps for a special showcase by Leroux. It’s a way to reveal what he is experimenting with, like a rosemary India pale ale to a dried cherry stout.
When in Cannon Beach, come into Public Coast to enjoy a solid pint and “food fit for a day of beachcombing.” After all, it has been tested and confirmed, the beach is calling your name.
