5 Stone Fruit Ciders to Survive Winter

by | Feb 19, 2019

We may still be a few months away from spring and summer but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a fruity cider while you’re waiting for those fruits to actually come into season in the PNW. Check out these cideries offering stone fruit-infused ciders right now that’ll have you excited and ready for the pitted-fruit-season in no time at all… Not that you needed another reason to be excited for the sun.

Pom-Cherry

Avid Cider Co.

This Oregon cidery — now with locations in Bend and Portland’s Pearl District, the latter is the largest cider taproom in the country at 3,598-square-foot — offers a wide variety of fruited ciders, with this blast of juicy tang not to be overlooked. A sip of this will take you far away from the rainy, cold days that you’re enduring and transport you into the summer heat with blue skies above.

Apricot

Tieton Cider Works

The Yakima Valley’s Tieton Cider Works doesn’t make things complicated with its Apricot cider. A straightforward cider that becomes tart with the infusion of apricot, hints of fresh and dry apricot allow for a pairing indulgence on some fried food. Afterall, who wants to try and cook when it’s miserable out and the grocery store seems too far away? Instead look forward to the fruits of summer with this cider as you feast on that basket of fries you ordered off Postmates.

Winterberry Peach

Bauman’s Cider

Cozy on up by a fire to enjoy Bauman’s Cider Winterberry Peach. The cider uses a combination of over a dozen apple varieties and then adds winter peaches from on its farm in Oregon, finishing with a splash of raspberries. The sip is sweet and delightful for an evening of staying in and warming up with a bowl of soup.

Cherry Apple

Wards Hard Cider

There’s really nothing better than a night in with an adult libation and a plate of cheese. A British Columbia-based powerhouse cidery, Wards uses a blend of apples plus orchard-grown Montmorency cherries for this cider. The result is an off-dry, cherry cider with hints of almonds and hazelnuts. Toast to the warm nights that you know are ahead of you.

Pomme and Stone

Finnriver Farm & Cidery

The apples in this cider are all fermented on this Olympic Peninsula farm cidery, later combined with stone fruit from Tonnemaker Hill Farms in Eastern Washington. Don’t expect a super-sweet cider — instead embrace the fruit-forward, sourness that it delivers oh-so-well. While this cider may seem optimal for a day on the boat and watching the sunset, substitute that notion for the bathtub and the sunset for a fireplace on your laptop.
