Winter Perks: A Cozy Coffee-Cranberry Creation

by | Dec 13, 2025

Winter Perks, from New Deal Distillery, is both fresh and rich, featuring warming notes of coffee and cocoa nibs. This complex, layered cocktail will warm you on even the coldest of days.

The blend of the lively fruit preserves and tart cranberry juice balance the spiciness of the rye. In this layered cocktail, you get the roast of the coffee, the spice of the rye, and the fruitiness of the cranberry juice, combined with raspberry jam, all in one sip. It’s the perfect nightcap for a winter dinner party, a cozy finish to a snowy evening spent baking cookies, an après-ski warm-up, a pick-me-up after holiday shopping, or a festive accompaniment to Christmas morning brunch.

Pairs well with cinnamon rolls, flourless chocolate torte, or cranberry chocolate chip biscotti.

INGREDIENTS

1 ounce New Deal Coffee Liqueur
1 ounce Distiller’s Reserve Rye Whiskey or 40 Acres Straight Rye Whiskey
1½ ounces unsweetened 100% cranberry juice (We like Lakewood Organics or Santa Cruz Organics)
4 dashes chocolate bitters (we like Scrappy’s or Bitter Truth)
1 TBS raspberry jam (We used Bonne Maman)

GARNISH

Cranberry juice, sugar, and finely ground coffee for the rim

DIRECTIONS

Begin by preparing the glass. For a coffee-sugar rim, mix equal parts finely ground coffee and granulated sugar in a shallow dish. Wet the rim of a coupe or martini glass with cranberry juice, then dip it into the coffee-sugar mixture. Add the remaining cocktail ingredients to a shaker tin with ice and shake firmly to incorporate the jam. Fine-strain into the prepared glass.
