We Dig: Sun Yourself at BC’s Brewpubs

by | Aug 18, 2015

This is it, we have reached the last of our four part series of outdoor brewpubs across the Pacific Northwest. We’ve taken you to the best of Oregon, Washington and Idaho, and now to finish it off up north. As summer enters its last month, don’t miss out on sipping your favorite Canadian beers while soaking up sun on some of the best outdoor brewpubs British Columbia has to offer.

Spinnakers || Victoria, BC
We can’t talk about brewpubs in Canada without starting with Spinnakers. Its 1984 opening marked, “Canada’s first in-house brewpub of the modern era.” Spinnakers has paired with more than 35 local farmers to bring some of the best farm-to-table fare in the city. Enjoy a gorgeous view of Victoria’s Inner Harbour while checking out the Taproom. Spinnakers features a large list of rotating guest taps that switches out every Tuesday, as well as their own seasonal brews.

Steel Toad || Vancouver
After five years of restoration efforts, the old manufacturing building dating back to 1918 was brought to new life; a life full of beer. But not without the structure’s historic charm. An actual anvil with Steel Toad Brewpub and Dining Hall written on it hangs on the outside wall of the building, paying homage to the building’s past. The original truss and rafter roof design was kept, old blueprints found on site were turned into wall paper and rusting metal artifacts became decorative art pieces. The space is large, big as in you and 300 of your closest friends can head over for a bite to eat and a beer or two. Try their West Coast IPA, or adventure out and try their Strawberry Sour, and if none of their own in-house brews are what you are looking for, take a look at the rotating guest tap list.

Sailor Hagar’s Brew Pub || Vancouver
Take your pick from 18 beers on tap, six being their own craft brews. The expansive selection of beer is met with an equally varied menu, highlighting fresh ingredients and locally sourced seafood. After soaking in a breathtaking view of Vancouver Harbour and the city skyline, stop by Sailor Hagar’s Liquor Store, offering a huge selection of wine and spirits, beer and cider.

Yaletown Bewing Company || Vancouver
This place has a little bit of something for everyone. Whether looking for a relaxing after work beer with a coworker or two, or one of those nights reminiscent of 21st birthdays, Yaletown can accommodate. Voted Best Brewpub in Canada a few times over, Yaletown offers pool tables, outdoor seating and warm fireplaces, all with a buzzing social atmosphere. “Dream big. Work hard. Have a beer.”

CANOE Brewpub || Victoria
At CANOE Brewpub near Victoria’s Chinatown neighborhood, beer is a beautiful art. No preservatives or additives, their unfiltered beer is naturally carbonated to ensure a quality tasting brew. Guests can check out the dining room, the patio and the pub, while listening to live music played every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. CANOE even looks out onto its own private marina. Can’t get any closer to a waterfront view than that!
