Washington Cider Week Starts Tomorrow!

by | Sep 2, 2014

Washington has long been known for its crisp, homegrown apple varieties, and in recent years, the region has developed a reputation for equally killer hard cider. For the third year, Northwest Cider Association’s Washington Cider Week kicks off tomorrow (and even tonight!) with a 10-day-long celebration of the long-time international beverage.

Cider Week Washington kicks off on Thursday, September 4th, with tasting events galore. Washington is one of six states in the U.S. celebrating a Cider Week this year, joining California, Michigan, New York, Oregon and Virginia. Fourteen cideries from Washington are participating in this year’s events and the cider makers in the state have plenty to celebrate and be proud of.

Year after year cider continues to be the fastest-growing segment of the beverage market. Hard cider, crafted from apples with the same careful attention that wine is developed from grapes, is naturally gluten-free, and makes use of fruit varieties that date back hundreds of years.

Including tomorrow’s “warm up” event hosted by Sip Northwest‘s sister publication, CIDERCRAFT, at the Pan Pacific Hotel in downtown Seattle, the week will offer more than 100 separate activities, from tap take-overs to cider maker dinners and special menu items at restaurant and bar supporters throughout Washington state. Don’t miss James Beard Award-winner and cider expert Rowan Jacobsen’s book release at 7:30pm on Friday at Town Hall, the fifth annual Cider Summit Seattle grand tasting at The South Lake Union Discovery Center from 12-6pm on Saturday or the opening of Schilling Cider House that evening with free growler fills for the first 1,000 customers from one of the 32 rotating cider taps.
