Tieton Cider Works Tieton Blend Dry Cider

by | Jan 20, 2015

Not many cideries can say they are produced solely on 100 percent estate-grown fruit. Tieton, Washington’s Tieton Cider Works can—all the fruit for Craig and Sharon Campbell’s ciders (including a Perry) comes from their Harmony Orchards in the Yakima Valley. Craig Campbell is a third-generation farmer in the area and in 2008, he planted 25 cider apple varieties in a test block on two acres. From those 25, he narrowed it down to the eight most suitable for Tieton’s mission then spread it across 55 acres. Tieton now has the largest acreage of cider apples and Perry pears in Washington state. A blend of those varieties, the Tieton Blend Dry Cider is an English-style scrumpy that brings the fruity and floral qualities of the fruit to the forefront, but allows the earth, mineral, acid and tannin of cider varieties to form the foundation and structure of an approachable sipper. Sharon Campbell’s passion is pairing—make sure to check out one of the recipes she serves up specifically with this cider.
